I was reading a post from a student today on linkedin and they stated… It looks like all graphic designers do is create logos. Well honey, that’s a part of it. What people need to understand is that a logo can be a very powerful icon. Just as a flag is to a country, a logo is to a brand. A great logo always has a meaning behind it, it exudes the persona of the brand which therefore targets the appropriate customers. It’s the first thing that customers see, and so it should be powerful. From the choice of font, to the colors, the shapes used and placement of the of them all are carefully tweaked, revision after revision until approval. All marketing collateral then stems from this logo, creating a unified front for the brand therefore tieing in all aspects and beliefs the brand stands for.
Don’t tell me that you haven’t once been influenced by pretty packaging, because you know you have (“Oh that wine bottle looks like it would be good”), and kudos to the designer who designed it. Don’t tell me that you don’t feel happy, head held high when walking out of your favourite store branded bags in hand.
So, yes it’s a logo, but that logo is what resonates in people’s minds, and if that brand sells products that are desired, then you’ll never forget it’s logo, just like you’ll never forget your first love or that Apple is not only a fruit.Read more →
